Awkward is as Awkward Does!

Hey all! In case you were wondering, missionary work is so awkward! I will let you in on my weird thought process here. The other day we were watching the district videos which is about a district of missionaries and it basically just follows them around and interviews them. So as we were out walking this week I thought about what would happen if they recorded Sister Guthrie and I. I thought about the questions they would ask and how I would respond. Awkward came up and I could see them asking me what was so awkward so here is what I would respond:
1) Awkward is when you are walking down a street and your hand accidentally bumps your companions hand...(I can't stand when that happens. Every time it does I immediately grab my should strap on my purse and keep my hands far from hers).
2) talking to people about their dogs
3) watching little kids play because you have no clue what else to say and are hoping your companion will start up a good conversation
4) teaching the law of chastity to adults who are obviously not keeping that commandment.
5) boys.
The list could go on and on but I will stop there. There you go. That is what I think about sometimes when we are out walking. :)
Well we had transfer calls this week. And let me just tell you, I would WAY rather find out on Monday instead of Saturday. It is painful finding out so early. Hopefully that won't happen again.
Oh! I forgot about Halloween! Ours wasn't very excitng. We were in by 7pm to avoid the crowd (which was weird because the crowd starts at 6. good thing thatt is when we had dinner planned!). Then we just did our weekly planning until it was time to do our nightly planning. Then we crashed at 10. Super exciting right? I am sure that story was good enough to interrupt me telling you about transfers...right!?
Well now I need to tell you about our costumes! We dressed up at normal human beings! So fun! We got to wear our jeans and t-shirts and talk to people. Ha not really we just did a ton of service that day so that is what we were wearing most of the day.
Ok, here is my little thought for today:
This week I was studying the Doctrine and Covenants in section 9 and it was all about Oliver Cowdry wanting to translate but the Lord telling him to wait until it is his time and that at that point he was meant to help Joseph Smith in a different way. I was really able to apply that to myself this week with transfer calls. I was hoping for one thing and got something completely different. I realized that it doesn't really matter what I want. I am needed wherever He puts me and I need to be happy with that. It doesn't have to be a huge leadership position to make a difference in people's lives. I am needed where He put me and that is where I will be most effective this transfer. It has brought me a lot of peace knowing that I am doing what He wants me to do.
The same goes for everyone. We need to compare ourselves to ourselves. We can't look at others and say "Oh they are so great and whatever and I am not" THAT IS NOT HOW IT WORKS! We are all good at something. An all powerful being does not have talent less children. As long as we are doing our very best in the situation we are in and turning to Him to know what to do, then we are doing exactly what He needs us to be doing. So stop comparing yoruself to someone else. It doesn't matter if they parent differently or if they have a great and stable job. Be where YOU are supposed to be when YOU are supposed to be there. Things will be great and it will all work out.
Ok, now that it is time for me to go...I am going to Santa Barbara! hehe yes I served right around there when I was in Goleta. I will be in the same zone as I was back then but now I am in the heart of the city. And guess what. Sister Hiapo will be in the same ward as me! And sister Woodland is going to be in my zone too! My little trainees are growing up! My new companion is Sister Barnes this will be her 3rd transfer so this will be fun!
Anyway I have to go  now. Love you!
Sister Skeeter
