My Goals

As a freshman in college there is still so much I need to learn. Not just school wise, but how to live on my own, and how to balance life.
I have started out with smaller goals pertaining to my classes. One of my goals is to actually study the material I am given and try to understand how and why it is important. I want to come away from this semester knowing I learned all that I could and that I took advantage of my education. I also am working on doing all of the assigned homework the day it is actually given, and not wait until the last minute to start on it. As it says in “Everybody is Ignorant Only on Different Subjects”  “fun at that moment…is no freedom at all.” That was my problem, I wanted to go have fun instead of actually get my work done and then go play. With this goal, my semester will be less stressful and will help enhance my education.
I believe that a huge part of learning is getting enough rest to stay awake in classes and to be able to stay focused on what I am doing. The first semester I had here I did not sleep at all. I got about 3-4 hours of sleep a night. As a result I had poor grades and fell asleep in most of my classes. My goal this semester is to be able to get in bed at a decent time (a decent time being before 11:30 on weekdays and at curfew on weekends) and receive the sleep I need to preform my work well.
I have also decided to put into action what my teachers have taught me. I want to be able to retain the information I have learned and not lose it the second I am done with my last final. What good will that do me? So, what better way to remember everything, than by actually using it? I have already started by making my text messages punctuated with the correct spelling and grammar.
I have also noticed in myself that if I have a question or something that I do not understand, I am usually not brave enough to ask my teacher or a peer how to do it. My goal is to ask my teacher a question when I have one instead of claiming defeat and leaving my problem unsolved.
In the past I have figured that if I show up to class and do the assignments I will be ok. This is not the case, just showing up to class will do me no good if I am not there actively engaged. MY plan is to be in class and not just a warm body in a seat. My goal is to learn to take good useful notes that will help me study for my tests and get good grades.
